The Cooloola Schools Combined Chaplaincy Committee has recently been offered the wonderful opportunity of organising the Great Gympie Duck Race. This event was run for several years by the Gympie Central School P&C and we are delighted to able to keep it going and provide the opportunity for schools and other organisations to be involved through stalls and a concert featuring talented local students. Through this event we hope to assist schools and local organisations to raise much-needed funds, whilst raising the awareness of chaplaincy in our community.

This year the Great Gympie Duck Race will be held on Saturday 23 October from 11am to 1pm and will take place at the Sands Trailhead area of the Mary River near Aldi. This venue will give more room for spectators and stalls and provide a shorter distance from start to finish. Watching 1,000 colourful rubber ducks race downstream on the beautiful Mary River will be a great spectacle!

Although the duck race will be hosted by Cooloola Schools Combined Chaplaincy (CSCC), we are proposing that this will be a community-wide fundraising event. Schools and community organisations can nominate to sell printed tickets at $5 per ticket and retain half of the ticket price. Tickets will also be available for purchase on-line (details to be finalised). The CSSC will provide the prize money, administration and online fees and organise other activities and events on the day.

We would like to invite your school or organisation to be involved by hosting a stall at no charge. Stall holders will responsible for supplying their own marquee and other equipment. Please note that there is no access to power, so if this is required you will need to provide your own generator.

The Great Gympie Duck Race will be advertised far and wide via website, Facebook, posters and banners around town. We will also be approaching local newspapers, TV & radio stations asking for their support.
